This post is inspired by us being ill. I wouldn't be ill if Kate hadn't given me her sicky bug, but we like to share things so it was bound to happen.
Here are my top tips on surviving those Autumn/Winter illnesses.
1. Go to Your Doctor
If you have a chesty cough (and other symptoms) or have been throwing up for a couple days, then go see your doctor. They can give you medication to help relieve your symptoms or if you need a sick line for work, they'll give you that. Because, let's face it, if you work with people who are already sick or with people who are prone to get sick (like little kids) then you're best not to be at work.
2. Painkillers (or medication)
Paracetamol, ibuprofen, aspirin, lemsip. All stuff that can be bought in your local supermarket. Paracetamol and ibuprofen can be taken together and help reduce your pain but can also help those sicky feelings in your stomach. Plus, ibuprofen has anti-inflammatory properties so can help relieve sore throats, and inflamed tonsils, etc. Aspirin is pretty great at relieving flu like symptoms. Lemsip, well we all know lemsip helps colds and flu.
One thing I will stress is don't over medicate. Please read the instructions on the packets before you chuck back a million tablets.
3. Grab Your Tissues
Soft tissues cause your nose will get hella sore. Also, tissues with olbas oil in them are pretty great for blocked noses.
In fact, olbas oil splashed on your pillow is pretty fab (but not too much because that stuff will go into your stomach and make you even more sick)
4. Stay Hydrated
As much as you might not want to you need to keep drinking. If you stop drinking and are throwing up then you're most likely going to end up in hospital on a drip and that's never fun.
5. Keep Warm
Even if your temperature is continuously fluctuating, keep warm. Put on your cosy pj's, grab a hot water bottle, put a blanket over you and watch a movie.
6. Stay Indoors
Unless absolutely necessary, you don't need to go outside. You'll only end up catching another cold because the temperature is so low, and that's just a tad bit annoying.
And look, even if you're not ill. Drinking plenty and wrapping up every time you step outside will prevent those nasty little Autumn/Winter bugs.
