Portugal // Travel Blog

So as you may have gathered from our Instagram and Twitter I (Kate) was recently in Portugal with work for a conference. Luckily I also had some free time while I was there to explore a bit. I thought I would show you some of the picture from my trip and share a few stories!

Carcavelos

We stayed in a hotel in Carcavelos which was only a couple of minutes away from the beach. And what a beach. If I had an hour between sessions I would nip away and sit and read a book and watch the surfers do their thing. It was gorgeous!

Belem

We were lucky enough to be able to grab a couple of hours to do a little bit of exploring in Belem on the Sunday of our stay. Belem is a gorgeous town with so much to see, this is just a small taster of what it has to offer. We spent most of the time at a market which was set up, I was so engrossed with going around all the stalls that I didn't take any pictures.

Jeronimos Monastery was one of the first things you saw when you got to Belem. It's absolutely massive and so beautiful. These pictures don't do the scale or beauty of this building justice at all!

"Monument to the Discoveries" is another enormous landmark in this town. Unfortunately we didn't have time to go inside this monument but even seeing it from the outside was impressive.

Okay bonus story. I know this picture looks totally gross but I promise it's relevant! One of the nights we were at the conference we went out for dinner at a local place nearby to the hotel we were staying in. I ordered chicken, now imagine my surprise when this plate gets put in front of me. An entire fish, fins, scales, eyes and all. And that was it. Literally a fish one tiny slice of carrot and half a lemon...WHAT!! And because I'm me and I'm so unbelievably British I didn't say anything. No, I ate the thing. So there we go, never order food in a restaurant where you don't understand the language and the waiter doesn't understand English!

So I hope you enjoyed seeing a snapshot of my little Portugal adventure.
Let us know if you want to see more travel blog posts in the future!
